Cutle

Cutle is a shape-cutting puzzle where one straight line must divide the filled area as close to a perfect 50:50 split as possible.

Here's a quick look at the game:

Cutle turns a simple-looking slice into a problem of area rather than distance. You draw one straight line through the displayed shape, then the game measures how much filled area falls on each side. A perfect result is 50:50, so finding the visual center of the outline is not always enough.

Reading the Shape Before You Cut

The main challenge in Cutle is deciding where equal area actually lies. A long, narrow section may contain less area than a short but wide bulge, which means a line through the apparent middle can still produce an uneven result.

Some archived shapes also contain holes or separate filled regions. Cutle evaluates the total filled area across those regions, so the empty spaces themselves should not be treated as part of either half.

How the Cut and Score Work

Press or click inside the game board, drag a line completely across the shape, and release to make the cut. The line must pass fully through the shape for the attempt to count. Mouse and touch input follow the same basic drag-and-release action.

After a valid slice, the two sides separate and Cutle displays both a rounded ratio and a more precise score. The score is calculated from the smaller side: its percentage is multiplied by two. For example, a precise split of 49.6:50.4 produces a score of 99.2%.

A displayed 50:50 does not always mean a perfect score because the large ratio is rounded. To receive 100.0%, the precise result must round to 50.0:50.0. A 49.9:50.1 result instead scores 99.8%.

Improving a Close Cut

When a shape has clear symmetry, using its symmetry line gives you a strong starting point because matching regions naturally balance their filled areas. With asymmetric shapes, compare wide and narrow sections rather than measuring only the outline or the line's distance from the edges.

Cutle allows you to retry the current challenge, so use the previous ratio as feedback. If one side is slightly larger, adjust the line's position or angle by a small amount instead of making a completely different slice.

Scores also determine trophies: Perfect requires 100.0%, Gold is a rounded 50:50 without a perfect score, Silver covers 49:51, and Bronze covers 48:52.
